1. Reduce your to-do list to increase motivation

It’s easy to lack motivation when you have too much going on.  Too many items on your to-do list can lead to procrastination and overwhelm.  The simplest way to increase motivation is to reduce your to-do list to a small number of important activities that excite and motivate you.

When you play to your strengths and spend more time doing activities you love to do, you will increase your motivation.  Alternatively, if your work day is spent firefighting or working on activities that bore you, it’s easy to lose motivation.

You can improve your motivation by identifying three crucial activities to work on each day.  Choosing to work on activities that excite you will increase your motivation and ensure you take action.

2. Increase motivation by celebrating success

A simple way to increase your motivation is to always find ways to celebrate success.  When you celebrate your achievements you feel more motivated and confident. 

It can be easy for every day to feel the same.  To move from one project to the next or tick off another item on your to-do list without recognising the outcome or result you achieved.

We feel more motivated when we’ve achieved something important to us.  When someone acknowledges our performance in a positive way we simply feel more energised and motivated.

Always look for way to celebrate your success if you’re lacking motivation right now.  A simple process to increase your motivation is to celebrate three things you achieved each day. 

3. Set better goals

Setting goals that are crucially important to you will increase your motivation.  Goals helps create a picture of the ideal future you want to create for yourself.  If this vision is exciting and inspiring you will feel more motivated to take action towards achieving those goals.

To increase your motivation set goals that are measurable with a deadline attached to them.  When you set measurable goals you are emotionally engaged in the outcome of the goal, which improves motivation.  You have  a clear destination to work towards each day, which ensures you stay motivated.

4. Increase motivation by tracking progress 

When you make positive progress towards a measurable outcome that is important to you feel more motivated.  If you want to increase your motivation find a way to continually track your progress. 

When you have a measurable financial goal, performance goal or health goal and you can see tangible improvements you’ll be more motivated to stay on track.

The best way to increase your motivation when tracking progress is to aways measure backwards from where you started.  That way you can track your progress day after day and week after week.

5. Don’t compare yourself to others 

It’s easy to lose motivation if you constantly compare yourself, and your performance, to other people.  If you want to increase motivation stay on your own path and don’t compare yourself to others.

If you’re not happy with the progress you’re making take a step back and focus on your achievements.  This will help you feel more positive and motivated. 

When you compare yourself to others it’s easy to stray from your goals and start being influenced by external factors.  You can increase motivation by reconnecting with your purpose and clarifying your goals.

6. Increase your intentionality 

Being intentional helps you get clear on the result or outcome you want to achieve in any situation.  When you increase your intentionality you feel more motivated and excited about the work you are doing because you understand the benefit of achieving that result.

Being intentional will help you structure and plan your day in the most effective way possible.  It will narrow your focus and ensure you spend your time on the activities that produce results. 

This ensures you stay motivated during the day, rather than being overwhelmed or distracted.

7. Express gratitude to increase motivation

It’s easier to feel motivated and excited when you express gratitude.  Being grateful about the things you have in your life expands confidence and happiness and will encourage you to take action towards achieving your goals.

The more you feel positive about what you’ve achieved, you boost your motivation to achieve more.  Expressing gratitude increases your self-esteem and self-worth, which increases motivation.

When you are thankful for what you have you get a boost of motivation.  If you have low motivation right now, take a moment to express gratitude for everything that is positive in your life.

Make it a daily habit to express gratitude and you will see your motivation increase.
