Having an effective daily plan can be your process for a successful day.  The first step to planning you day is to define your goals for the day.  Knowing exactly where you want to invest your time will give you a greater sense of clarity and purpose.

6 tips for successful daily planning

Here is the complete guide to planning your day.

1. Plan your day the night before

Planning your workday in advance gives you the best chance of having a successful, productive day.  The best way to do this is to introduce a daily planning routine in the evening.

When you write down your daily plans in the evening you feel calmer and clearer.  It is easier to identify your biggest priorities for the day ahead when you can think clearly about your most important tasks.  Writing down your Effective daily planning starts the night before.

Take ten to fifteen minutes in the evening planning your day.  This will ensure you start each day feeling focused and ready to take action on the activities that matter most.

2. Make planning a daily habit

It’s a good idea to plan at the same time every day.  Developing the habit of daily planning will keep you focused and on track to achieve your goals.  If you don’t want to plan your day the night before, you can plan your day in the morning.

Many of my coaching clients prefer to do planning in the morning as part of their morning routine.  When planning your day in the morning try to find a quiet space so you can think clearly.

Write down your goals for the day and ensure you schedule time to review your plan throughout the day.

3. Make your daily planning simple

If you want to make daily planning a habit it’s important to keep it simple.  Planning your day should deliver positive benefits and be something you look forward to.

Don’t overthink your daily planning.  Take a short amount of time to think about the things you want to achieve that day, and then list out your priorities.

If your daily planning becomes confusing and complicated you will drop the habit quickly.  Keep it simple and you will reap the rewards.

4. Plan by prioritising your daily tasks

You may want to use your daily planning time to write down everything on your to-do list for the day.  That’s fine, but it is essential to identify your biggest priorities for the day.

Not everything on your to-so list is a priority.  Once you identify your biggest priorities you can schedule time to work on them. This will help you to harness your time and focus to make the most of your day.

5. Schedule your daily plan

One of the most important elements of daily planning is to take your priorities for the day and schedule time to work on them.  If you don’t schedule time to work on your daily plan you may waste time on non-urgent tasks instead.

Scheduling your priorities will help you stay focused and allow you to manage your time more effectively.  Scheduling time for breaks and to review your day will ensure you stay energised and productive throughout the day.

When you achieve those results it’s important to celebrate your daily achievements.  Celebrating achievements boost confidence and motivation.  You feel more positive about your day and it makes you want to make daily planning a habit, as you can see the benefits.
